Minty Labels: Print-Ready UK Nutrition Labels from Your Shopify Products
DataMintify's Minty Labels feature turns enriched Shopify product data into print-ready UK FIR 2014-compliant nutrition labels — in one click, straight from your product list. No design software, no spreadsheets, no third-party label tools required.
What Is a UK FIR 2014 Nutrition Label?
The UK Food Information Regulations 2014 (FIR 2014) — derived from EU Regulation 1169/2011 — require food businesses to provide a mandatory nutrition declaration on pre-packed food products. This declaration must include, per 100 g or 100 ml:
- Energy (in kJ and kcal)
- Fat and saturates
- Carbohydrates and sugars
- Fibre
- Protein
- Salt
The label must also carry your business name and address as the food business operator, and — increasingly important for operational compliance — your storage instructions. Getting all of this formatted correctly, printed legibly, and applied to hundreds or thousands of SKUs is where most food businesses run into practical difficulties.
Who Needs Printed Nutrition Labels?
Printed labels are a distinct need from online product listings. While your Shopify store may already display enriched nutrition information in the product description, physical labels are needed whenever a product is packaged and shipped, sold at market, picked and packed in-house, or produced as a private label.
Food manufacturers & producers
Any business producing pre-packed food needs compliant labels before products leave the facility.
Importers & wholesalers
Products imported without UK-compliant labeling need relabeling before sale — often in volume.
Co-packers & private label brands
Packing under your own brand means you are the food business operator — your label, your compliance.
Meal kit & DTC food brands
Subscription boxes and direct-to-consumer food brands pack and ship products that require full labeling.
The Label Printing Problem
Most food businesses that sell on Shopify have already solved their online compliance — they display nutrition facts and allergen information on the product page. But when it comes to printing a physical label, they typically face one of these frustrating situations:
- ✗ Paying a designer or buying label design software to produce label templates — then repeating this for every new SKU
- ✗ Maintaining a separate spreadsheet of nutrition values just for label production
- ✗ Discovering the nutrition data on the label doesn't match the Shopify listing — two sources of truth diverging over time
- ✗ Labels that are technically compliant but take a full day of work per batch to produce
Minty Labels eliminates all of this. Because DataMintify already holds the enriched nutrition data for your products, there is no second source of truth — the same data that appears on your Shopify product page drives the printed label.
How Minty Labels Works
Minty Labels is built directly into DataMintify. Once a product has been enriched with complete nutrition data, a Print Label button appears next to it in your product list. The flow is:
- 1Enrich the product using DataMintify's barcode lookup — nutrition facts, ingredients, and allergens are pulled from certified global food databases.
- 2Click Print Label on any enriched product. A label preview opens immediately — no waiting, no export, no template to fill in.
- 3Select your label size (100×150 mm thermal, A6, or A5), confirm your business details, and print directly from the browser.
What appears on every Minty Label
- • Full nutrition declaration (energy, fat, saturates, carbs, sugars, fibre, protein, salt) per 100 g/ml
- • Ingredient list
- • Business name and registered address
- • Storage instructions (default or per-product override)
Label Sizes
Minty Labels supports three print sizes to cover the most common label and packaging formats:
| Size | Dimensions | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Thermal (4"×6") | 100×150 mm | Dedicated label printers (Dymo, Zebra, Rollo) |
| A6 | 105×148 mm | Standard A6 label sheets, inkjet and laser printers |
| A5 | 148×210 mm | Larger packaging, product information inserts |
You can set a default label size in the DataMintify Settings page and change it at print time — useful when different product lines need different label formats.
One Source of Truth
The most underappreciated benefit of Minty Labels is what it eliminates: the second source of truth. When you use separate label design software, you inevitably end up managing nutrition data in two places — your Shopify product and your label template. When the recipe changes or a supplier updates their spec sheet, both need updating. One usually gets missed.
With Minty Labels, there is only one source — the enriched DataMintify record. Update the enrichment, and the next label you print is automatically up to date. No template editing, no cross-referencing, no compliance risk from a spreadsheet that hasn't been touched in six months.
